How to Donate Old Eyeglasses
Give the Gift of Sight
Each year as we head into fall, students head back to campus to hit the books. That makes fall a popular time for our academically minded patients to update their eyewear frames and add new prescription lenses for the clearest vision. If you’re like me, you likely have accumulated quite a collection of eyeglass frames over the years. Most likely, these will never be worn again. By the time we reach middle age, many of us have a dozen or more used, no longer fashionable, or simply outdated eyeglasses stuffed in drawers, cabinets, and boxes throughout our homes. If you’d like to reclaim some of that space, read on!
Don’t Toss Those Old Glasses!
Recycle Used Eyeglasses to Help Those in Need
There are over two billion people in the world with poor vision who cannot afford to purchase corrective eyeglasses. If you have any old reading glasses, prescription eyeglasses, or sunglasses lying around, Wise Eyes Optical would like to encourage you to consider donating those pairs you no longer plan to use. Eyeglasses donated to these charities are inspected, cleaned, and distributed to those in need throughout the world. It’s a win-win situation you can feel great about!
Are My Old Glasses Fit to Donate?
Any new or gently used eyeglasses in good condition can make an excellent gift for someone who otherwise would not have access to vision correction. Generally, glasses may be made of any standard material or style. Please note that eyewear with broken frames or lenses, and those missing parts, may be unsuitable for donation at some eyeglass recycling centers, while some others may accept damaged glasses and parts for processing. Be sure to check with the specific organization to be sure.
