How to Clean Your Eyeglasses In 5 Easy Steps
Safely Remove Oils, Dirt & More Without Scratching the Lenses
Whether you are the proud owner of a new pair of eyeglasses, or you’ve worn glasses for years, the following tips can help ensure you’re cleaning them properly. Take a few minutes to read over the correct approach to safely clearing oils, dust, dirt, and debris from your eyewear and other vision aids. When you take just a minute or two each day to clean and care for your glasses the correct way, you can dramatically improve their usefulness and longevity. Regular cleaning also helps eliminate accumulations of bacteria, viruses, and pathogens that could make you sick!
Step One: Wash Your Hands
Wash your hands with warm soapy water, rinse, and dry to help remove any soil, pathogens, and debris that may be present.
Step Two: Rinse the Eyeglasses
Briefly run your eyeglasses under lukewarm water to rinse and dislodge any sharp particles, dust, and contaminants that could scratch your lenses.
Step Three: Wash Your Glasses
Wash your glasses, including all areas of the frame and lens surfaces. Gently rub to remove any facial oils, cosmetics, and contaminants that may be present. You may use either a commercial eyeglass cleaning spray or prepare a mild cleansing solution by adding 2-3 drops of liquid castile soap to one cup of warm water.
Step Four: Rinse Again
Rinse away all traces of soap or cleaning agents by passing your glasses under a stream of clean, warm water.
Step Five: Dry Completely
Gently set your wet glasses down on a fresh towel or washcloth. With a clean, dry microfiber cloth, carefully wipe away any remaining water droplets. Rub gently to remove water streaks and gently polish.
